Ukawa hots up the 500 event with fastest time in warm-up

Tohru Ukawa was fastest this morning on his Repsol Honda. The Japanese rider was almost a second slower than his qualifying time that places him fifth on the grid. Ukawa could be able to give Honda it´s 500th grand prix victory if the manufacturer score wins in the 125 and 250 classes today. Loris Capirossi, the pole man, could only manage the seventh best time, while countryman Max Biaggi shook off the effects of an illness to take second position.

World Champion Kenny Roberts and Noriyuki Haga came third and fourth respectively and were the last riders to lap in the 2.06 bracket. Haga has been consistently quick this weekend despite crashing out twice yesterday.Garry McCoy and Norick Abe recorded their lowest placing so far with 11th and 13th. However, the top thirteen riders were separated by only two seconds.

Barry Veneman completed only three laps before retiring and there were no fallers.
