First blood to Katoh in three way second 250 practice tussle

First blood to Katoh in three way second 250 practice tussle

Daijiro Katoh emerged from the second 250 free practice session with a best time of 1´44.336 on his 17th lap of 23. Katoh takes the psychological advantage into this afternoon´s qualifying session after a three way tussle with Fonsi Nieto and Roberto Locatelli. The practice was more like a qualifying session itself with Nieto showing real promise on the Aprilia by posting a best time late in the session which was just 0.036 seconds off Katoh and a mere 0.042 seconds ahead of Locatelli.

The battle promises to be resumed this afternoon and with Marco Melandri and Marcelino Lucchi certain to pitch in there is sure to be some unforgettable action this weekend in the 250 class. Home riders Alex Debon and Emilio Alzamora also looked comfortable at the Jerez circuit today whilst the likes of Tetsuya Harada and Jeremy McWilliams cannot be ruled out after lapping consistently throughout the session.
