Cecchinello on form in 125 warm up

Lucio Cecchinello was the fastest rider in this morning´s warm-up session as the 125 riders tentatively took to the Jerez circuit in front of a huge crowd. All riders were careful not to slip in the morning dew, with Cecchinello dealing with the conditions best to record a quickest lap of 1´49.313 on his Aprilia.

Local rider Joan Olive was the first man around the track on race day and thousands of slumbering fans greeted the young rider with a wall of noise, hooters and applause - setting the tone for what is sure to be an exciting racing event. Pole position holder Youichi Ui looked comfortable on the Derbi, clocking the second quickest time only a hundredth of a second off Cecchinello. Masao Azuma, winner of the opening GP in Japan, was the last rider to lap in the 1.49s.

The fastest Spanish rider was Daniel Pedrosa on the Honda in sixth who was less than a second away from Cecchinello. In fact the top 11 riders were all within a second of each other. The Italjet machine continues to look strong at Jerez as Gianluigi Scalvini placed seventh.
