Biaggi, Katoh and Giansanti lead Le Mans warm-up sessions

The final preparations for the Grand Prix Polini de France were made this morning in the warm up sessions for each class. Although the times are generally of little relevance as the riders get into their rhythm, 500 pole position holder Max Biaggi was quick to stamp his authority on the class with a fast lap despite Valentino Rossi´s best efforts to make his presence felt. There was no doubt where the French faith lies, as the Le Mans crowd gave Rossi a standing ovation as he took to the track for the first time today.

In the 250 class Daijiro Katoh was the quickest rider but the main news was the presence of Marco Melandri. Roberto Locatelli and home rider Randy de Puniet were the other riders to take the headlines, with quick laps throughout the session.

The official starting grids have been confirmed and in the 500 class there will be 3 empty spaces due to the absence of injury hit trio Garry McCoy, Leon Haslam and Anthony West. There was disappointment all round when it was confirmed that Katja Poensgen will miss the 250 race after a nasty fall yesterday, and she will be joined in the grandstand by Julien Alemand. In the 125 class Gianluigi Scalvini and Angel Rodriguez have both been declared unfit to start, as Mirko Giansanti set the fastest warm-up time.
