Borsoi back in the headlines in 125

Borsoi back in the headlines in 125

Despite moving to the top of the rider standings with a second place finish in Mugello a month ago, Gino Borsoi faded into the background in the last round of MotoGP´s 125 class at Catalunya with 14th place on the grid and 18th in the race itself. The young Italian gave up his leadership to Manuel Poggiali but showed today that he is not willing to to slip out of the title race just yet with an impressive performance in the first qualifying session for the Dutch TT which sees him on provisional pole.

Borsoi set a late fast lap after Lucio Cecchinello and Toni Elias, first and second respectively in Catalunya, had dominated the time sheets throughout the session. The pair make up the provisional front row with Youichi Ui, who also looks like he may be starting a return to form after disappointing recent results have left him in sixth place in the rider standings despite having taken 45 points from the first two races.

Current Championship leader Manuel Poggiali qualified in fifth place, and is joined on the provisional second row by Jaroslav Hules and Steve Jenkner, who lapped together to set respective fast laps, and Stefano Perugini.
