Manuel Poggiali, the coveted leader of the 125 class

Manuel Poggiali, the coveted leader of the 125 class

San Marino rider Manuel Poggiali, current leader of the 125 World Championship, has already received offers for next season. Despite none of the teams officially confirming the situation, it appears that Aprilia have made contact with the Gilera and have made him an offer of over a year long contract which includes the option of stepping up to the 250 class. The Noale have reacted to the fact that they do not have an outright title contender in the 125 class and in 250 Marco Melandri has yet to follow in the footsteps of Valentino Rossi due to injury problems.

The Piaggio group want to hang on to Poggiali at all cost and build their image around the youngster, who has already declared on numerous occasions his contentment with the structure created by Giampiero Sacchi and his intention to stay with the team. The success of the partnership are evident in the results, with Poggiali leading his category and one of the main contenders to lift the title. The San Marino man and his representatives are unlikely to sign for more than a year if they do stay with Gilera, as seems likely.

All parties concerned are preferring to focus their intentions on this year´s Championship, although nobody has denied that there have been discussions held over a possible switch.
