Both riders of Team Repsol YPF Honda improved their grid positions from yesterday, and will start tomorrow´s Pacific Grand Prix from the third row. Tohru Ukawa, who qualified in nineth place, cut more than one and a half seconds off his time from yesterday, after improving the set-up of his bike and after considerably reducing the front end chatter that slowed him on the first day of practice. Alex Crivillé, who still has physical problems from the blow to his ribcase that he suffered when falling from his trial bike, enjoyed a more positive day as well, improving in the last minutes of the session by two seconds in comparison to his previous best time, which awarded him the eleventh position on the starting grid.Tohru Ukawa, who qualified in nineth place, cut more than one and a half seconds off his time from yesterday, after improving the set-up of his bike and after considerably reducing the front end chatter that slowed him on the first day of practice. ´We still haven´t been able to get rid of all the front end chatter. This sort of chatter stems from the rear end of the bike, therefore we tried different kinds of rear tyres in order to improve the behaviour of my bike. We found a tyre that basically eliminates the chatter, but with this tyre compound, we lose too much traction, so this is no real solution. Apart from that, we improved step by step from yesterday, but we still didn´t improve enough, as the times show. The track condition is getting better, and I think that race pace tomorrow will be similar to last year´s, in the 50.5´s. It´s important to get a good start here, because the straight before the first corner is very short.´Alex Criville

´At the end of the practice session, we mounted a 17-inch rear tyre, and I was instantly faster by half a second. I get more feedback from the bike with this tyre dimension so I have more confidence, but all in all I´m still not comfortable. I still feel the effect of the blow to my ribs. I don´t have any fractures, but internal bruises which are very painful when I have to make quick direction changes, and under brakes. There is little more to say, only that we will try some more adjustments in the warm-up tomorrow, and that we then will see how the race goes. The first corner is tight and the starting straight is short, and this is the point where we have to try and avoid the typical first lap incidents.´
