Mick Doohan looking to Rossi for a tenth win of the season

Mick Doohan looking to Rossi for a tenth win of the season

The riders had to contend with hot and humid conditions today but when you go to places like Malaysia then you have to expect that and there´s no use complaining. The conditions are the same for everyone and it´s something you have to just try and deal with as best as possible and get on with the job of racing.

Sepang is quite a strange circuit. It has very long straights and some hard turns, so there are not too many opportunities for overtaking. It certainly doesn´t lend itself to exciting racing so nobody should expect the sort of spectacle we witnessed last weekend in Phillip Island. I know it´s a circuit the Formula 1 guys rave about but I raced here in 1999 and I have to say it didn´t do anything for me.

Capirossi has taken his fourth pole of the season but is yet to win a race, proof beyond doubt that he goes a lot better in qualifying than he does in the races. He has been getting more and more consistent though and it would be good to see him take a win before the end of the year. I´m sure he is desperate to do so and end the season in style.

My favourite for the race though is once again Valentino Rossi. It´s hard to see past him with the consistency he has demonstrated throughout the season. He was constantly setting fast laps in Friday´s session and was the fastest man on the track today, even though he couldn´t quite make pole.

Riders are complaining that the conditions are difficult on tyres and that rubber choice will be important, but I don´t see why it should be such a big problem. It depends on track temperature of course, but I´m sure that Michelin will come up with a long lasting tyre with good grip and everyone will be competing on a level playing field.
