Pablo Nieto hopeful of a bright new era with Aspar

Pablo Nieto hopeful of a bright new era with Aspar

Pablo Nieto is a happy man. At the recent Aprilia tests in Jerez, the youngest of the Nieto family impressed on his new motorcycle not only with his adaptation to the machine but also with his lap times. Pablo, the quickest 125 rider at the test, is now hopeful of a bright new future with his new team, having made the switch from Derbi at the end of last season.

´The bike is very quick,´ he explained to motograndprix.com ´It suits my capabilities and my style of riding. It is very quick through the corners which is important for me and it is also very stable on the brakes.´

His integration to the team is the factor the Spanish rider values most, especially after the first few days working within the Team Aspar set-up: ´I feel very comfortable with the bike and the team, and that always shows in the lap times. To be honest the relationship with the whole team, from Jorge (Martínez ´Aspar´) to the mechanics and riders, is already excellent. This is a very profesional group who know how to do their job. They are giving me a lot of support and I can see they are working very hard for me, which gives me extra encouragement.´

Nieto, 21, has spent the last three seaons with Derbi but has failed to live up to high expectations of him as a rider, particularly in 2001: ´To be honest last season did not go well for me, but I consider that as the end of an era. My time with Derbi was an important period of my life and I appreciate it because I learnt many things. Now I hope to see that effort bear fruit.´

The youngster from Madrid continues his preseason schedule at the forthcoming IRTA tests in Valencia and Catalunya, whilst Aprilia will also carry out private sessions in Italy.
