Jay Vincent happy to be back on a Honda

After a busy schedule of three pretty intense tests over the last couple of weeks I'm back home in England now and I've had time to sit back and evaluate the work we have done. I think that from the first test in Almeria to the third test in Estoril the team went from strength to strength and I really believe that come the first race at Suzuka in April we will be ready to run with the factory boys.

In Almeria we had last year's bike but we got to know the team a little and had a good shakedown after the winter break. In Valencia we got the new kit in, bolted it together and began to find some good base settings but just ran out of time before we were able to start setting any fast laps. In Estoril we soon picked up where we left off and were getting close to the top three or four riders. Leon and myself are confident that we can ride with these guys and with a few improvements to the engine I know we can beat them because the Honda chassis is excellent.

I spent a lot of time riding Hondas when I first started in 250 and I had a lot of good results, so as soon as I got back on one I felt comfortable and was immediately aware of what I've been missing. It has a good spread of power from the bottom to the top and it really suits my riding style. Of course there is a lot of room for improvement but the boys are in the workshop now in Barcelona and we will all be trying our best over the next couple of months to give ourselves the best possible start to the championship.

Communication between rider and team is one of the most important factors of Grand Prix racing, and with me not having worked with any of these guys before I have to admit I was a bit worried how things would gel. They are all Spanish and I don't speak a word, but luckily they speak enough English for us to get by and our relationship has got better and better over the first three tests. They are a good bunch of guys and, most importantly, they are keen to succeed. If things continue in the way they have so far, then I'm sure we can do just that.
