Cecchinello enjoying dual riding and management role in the Safilo Oxido team

As if competing for the 125cc championship crown wasn't enough, this year Italian veteran Lucio Cecchinello will also be overseeing the progress of his Safilo Oxido team in the quarter-litre category as he combines a dual riding and management role. Motograndprix.com caught up with Cecchinello to find out just how he's coping with this juggling act.

'To be honest, as I love MotoGP so much I knew I wanted to stay involved even when I finished riding, so I tried hard to develop my own team. The problem now is trying to concentrate on everything I have to do!' said the 32 year-old. 'Motivation is very important as there is always so much to do, but I have now some new people in the team to help me, and to organise, so I am left with a bit more time for testing my bike.'

As well as riding himself, Cecchinello is also managing one of racing's hottest young prospects, Casey Stoner, in the 250s, and the team boss is very excited about the young Aussie's potential. 'To be honest all the team was surprised (in Valencia), because nobody could have expected such a great performance from Casey. He has very big potential, but we should stay calm as these were only the winter tests, and a lot of other riders have a lot more experience than him both at the races and in setting up the bike.'

The team's next preseason outing will be the Aprilia tests at the Montmelo circuit this Thursday and Friday prior to the next round of IRTA tests, also to be held in Catalunya.
