Cecchinello left without both of his 250 riders after injuries to Stoner and Checa

Lucio Cecchinello has had an unlucky start to his first season as a 250cc Team Manager, after adding two quarter-litre riders to his 125 squad at the nend of last season. The bad news began at the IRTA tests in Estoril when David Checa broke his radius and scaphoid and was pronounced unfit to remount his bike until the first race of the season at Suzuka on April 7th.

However, things were to get worse for the Italian when his second rider, Australian youngster Casey Stoner suffered identical luck to his Spanish team-mate.

Stoner tumbled from his private Aprilia in private tests at Catalunya on Thursday and broke his left shoulder. He is now also out of action until Suzuka and the LCR squad have only their 125 riders Cecchinello and Alex De Angelis to work with until then.

The team presentation turned into something of a comical affair, with both Checa and Stoner sat aboard their 250 machines with their arms in sling.
