CWF Matteoni Racing hold official team presentation in Mugello

The CWF Matteoni Racing set-up, who will compete in the 125cc class this term, have held their official presentation ceremony in Mugello, taking advantage of the current Aprilia test session which is being held at the Italian circuit.

The big news for the 2002 season is the Aprilia bike the team will racing, which has undergone a radical programme of renovation. Up until last year, the set-up had used machines supplied by the Japanese manufacturer Honda. The team´s riders will be the Czech, Jaroslav Hules, and the young Briton, Chaz Davies, who for the first section of the season at least will be the championship´s youngest competitor.

At the presentation, held at ´Lo Sprocco´ villa, Hules affirmed his intention to fulfil his potential in a what he described as his ´season of truth.´ Davies, who was accompanied to the presentation by his parents, declared himself ´honoured to have been chosen to compete in the championship.´ As well as picking up experience, the youngster admitted his ´secret´ goal was to finish ´Rookie of the Year.´

This season will be Massimo Matteoni´s twelfth year as manager and benefactor of a team which has earnt a reputation for discovering young talents. Previous riders to have graduated from the team include Biaggi, Almazora, Melandri and Poggiali. To this end, Matteoni himself explained how the team´s objective was to get back to the achievements of past years, which include a World Title in 1999, 28 podiums, two Rookie of the Year titles and two third place championship finishes.
