Confident De Puniet looking forward to a successful season

Campetella Racing rider Randy De Puniet has enjoyed an excellent pre-season, and although only in his first year with the Italian set-up the young Frenchman has looked capable of making a genuine impact in this season´s 250cc World Championship. After completing the final scheduled tests of the pre-season in Barcelona last week, De Puniet now has his sights set firmly on Suzuka, and the season´s opening Grand Prix.

´I´m really happy. I´ve finished the tests in Barcelona with the second quickest time, just two tenths behind Marco Melandri and to be honest I wasn´t really looking at the clock. As they were test sessions I was just concentrating on my riding, and the times came so I was very pleased.´ The 21 year-old has settled quickly to life with the Campetella outfit, and believes both he and the team now have a lot of confidence in each other´s ability. ´So far everything has gone well. I fell at the IRTA tests in Valencia, but since then I haven't been off again. For the team it's reassuring, because I have shown that I can ride quickly without crashing.´

De Puniet, who finished thirteenth in last year's 250 category, is hungry to get started again this term and certainly isn´t lacking in confidence. ´I don´t think I´ve ever been so focused, well-prepared or motivated going in to a season before´ he stated. ´At the start of the year I was looking to finish around fifth overall. Now, after the tests, I´ve set my goals a bit higher. This year, I don´t want a couple of excellent results, I want to finish very high up in the championship, and to achieve that I´ll have to be consistent.´
