Jorge Lorenzo facing fitness battle for Jerez

Spanish youngster Jorge Lorenzo is facing a race against time in order to be fit for his Grand Prix debut at Jerez in May. The 14 year old from Mallorca broke his arm in private tests at Catalunya three weeks ago and is still unable to consider physical exercise as he allows the injury to heal.

``I am still wearing a sling on my arm and have been told to continue to rest it completely,´´ said the Derbi rider. ``I travel to Barcelona on Tuesday for a check-up but it will be a while before I can start to move it again. I must keep the sling on for at least another two weeks before I even consider starting some light training.´´

Lorenzo, who turns 15 on the final day of qualifying for the Gran Premio Marlboro de España and would become the youngest ever rider to compete in a round of the World Championship, is sceptical about his chances of making his dream debut so soon. ``My chances are not looking to good for Jerez,´´ he admitted. ``I have not given up hope but I will be working against the clock to be fit in time. After going to Barcelona I will fly straight home to Mallorca to rest and hopefully I can be back on a bike before too long.´´
