Daniel Pedrosa takes pole in the 125 class ahead of Pablo Nieto

Daniel Pedrosa claimed the first pole of his career at Suzuka, in a final qualifying session which was marked by the fight for first place and also the heavy fall of Manuel Poggiali who began the session with provisional pole. The World Champion didn\\\'t make it back on to the track after his crash, and ended up in seventh place just ahead of Steve Jenkner.

Stefano Bianco sprung a huge surprise by racing into pole position with just ten minutes of the session to go, only to fall the next lap. However Pedrosa then moved into pole position with just three and a half minutes left, and nobody could better his time despite Pablo Nieto and Lucio Cecchinello closing in on him to finish second and third respectively. Behind them, Italian rider Gino Borsoi grabbed fourth place to complete tomorrow\\\'s front line.

The session took place under cloudy skies with the threat of rain looking ever present.
