Jaroslav Hules looks back on his mixed fortunes in Suzuka

The opening race of the 125cc World Championship at Suzuka on Sunday was marked by the treacherous conditions and numerous falls. The slippery surface and chaotic nature of a wet race saw various riders lead the race before Frenchman Arnaud Vincent eventually took control.

Jaroslav Hules was one of the men who seemed to have victory in his grasp, stretching out an extensive early lead followed only by Steve Jenkner before sliding into the gravel on the eighth lap. ´It was the first time I have ridden my new bike in the wet and I am not usually comfortable in those conditions even though I got a good start,´ said the rider from the Czech Republic. `I went off track and the wheel became dirty, making the crash almost inevitable later on´.

Despite missing the valuable opportunity to pick up points, Hules claims he has a good relationship with the team and is happy with his Aprilia machine. ´It is perfect´, he smiles, although he is quick to insist that they have not set any fixed target for the season. ´We have not discussed objectives for the year, my intention is to take each race as it comes and, like all the riders, there are tracks which suit me more than others.´ Like it or not, Hules next challenge comes at Welkom in South Africa, where he will once again hope to be fighting at the front of the pack.
