Former World Champion Olivier Jacque predicting open 250 season

Former 250cc World Champion Olivier Jacque was the star of 2000 when he pipped team-mate Shinya Nakano to the title in the final race of one of the closest seasons ever. The Frenchman believes that this year´s title battle could be even closer, and explained his thoughts to motograndprix.com:

`I think it's going to be really open all season because the level of machinery is about the same and there is not one guy who is above the rest. Aprilia, Honda and Yamaha have put together very good packages and I think there is a chance for around seven riders so it will be a very interesting season.

`The conditions in the first race at Suzuka were difficult but the Frenchman Randy de Puniet was impressive and I think he will fight for the title. Fonsi Nieto is also looking good and then you have Rolfo and Alzamora. Melandri has a very good chance to win because he is probably the most experienced rider in 250 and he has an advantage. We will just have to wait and see what happens and I'm sure it will be very exciting.
