Manuel Poggiali analyses the race in Jerez and looks forward to Le Mans

Manuel Poggiali was one of the protagonists of the 125 GP in Jerez on Sunday. The race had everything, excitement, surprise and no shortage of spectacular incident. The current World Champion was battling for victory, but in the end a fall at the final corner handed the win to Italian Lucio Cecchinello. A few metres before his fall, Poggiali had been involved in another notable incident, this time a coming together with De Angelis which left the Aprilia rider on the floor. The episode eventually led to Poggiali being disqualified, after had he had managed to get back on after his crash and finish in tenth.

Poggiali gave his version of events to motograndprix.com; ´I have to say that I feel the decision to penalise and disqualify me is excessive because these things can happen in a race, but I don't want to say too much and cause any controversy. I think it was just one of those things, and part and parcel of competitive racing. I was trying to get the right line into the corner, and the back end of my bike touched the front brake of De Angelis. I spoke to him after the race, and the conversation between us was fine´.

Of his fall at the final corner, the Gilera rider commented; ´I´m not too bad after the crash. The collar-bone that I dislocated is back in place. The doctors diagnosed a slight fracture in my elbow, and on Thursday I´ll be heading to Imola to carry on my recuperation with Dr. Costa. Additionally, and as always happens in these circumstances I´ve got a few cuts and bruises. It won´t stop me racing in Le Mans, but I don´t know if I´ll be in great condition to take to the track. It´s going to be difficult for me to get a good result there and that´s a shame because it´s a track of which I have many good memories. Last year I took my first ever Grand Prix victory there´.
