West Honda Pons riders carry out day of tests at Montmelo

Just one day after getting back from the Polini Grand Prix de France, West Honda Pons riders, Loris Capirossi and Alex Barros, spent the day testing at the Montmelo circuit in Catalunya. The objective of the tests were two-fold, to adjust the set-up of each rider´s bike with an eye on the Grand Prix which takes place at the track in mid-June, and to attempt to locate the electrical problems that affected the NSR500 of Barros throughout last weekend´s race meeting in France.

´It´s not a test where we´re looking for times´, explained a member of the West Honda Pons team. ´We´ve concentrated on trying different tyres and suspensions, with an eye on the race here in about a month´s time. Also, Alex has been lapping throughout the day in order to try and discover the source of the problems we experienced in Le Mans, both in qualifying and the race itself´.

He went on to explain; ´The results we achieved in France weren´t great, but the moral of the team is still very high. The next round of the championship is at a track which is something of a ´talisman´for both our riders. Last year in Mugello, Barros won the race and Capirossi came in second. It´s going to be difficult to repeat that success this year with the 4-strokes around, but we´re hoping to get a good result´.
