Laconi enjoys a break between his two ´home´ Grand Prix

The race in Le Mans went really well. I already got a good result in the first race of the year in Japan, but the conditions there were exceptional. In France I finished ninth, but this time in the dry. It the kind of result which helps us progress, although we know there is still a lot of work to be done, especially on the chassis, and we´re still a long way from finding the perfect set-up.

That aside, it´s great to have got such a good result in front of the French crowd. I didn´t race there last year, and when I returned to the World Championship obviously I thought about being able to race at the French Grand Prix. To have a good race in front of your home fans really motivates you, and all the riders enjoy it. It was a positive weekend given that after getting away badly I was able to attack and climb up from 18th to finish 9th.

The next round is in Mugello, and that is another special race for me. It´s important to represent Aprilia well in their home Grand Prix, but this isn´t the only reason. From a personal point of view I have links to Italy, especially as I now have dual French-Italian nationality. I´m lucky enough to have two ´home´ GPs in a row. Also it´s a circuit I´ve gone well at in the past. It´s more technical than Le Mans, and it will be more demanding on the bike´s chassis. I hope we can find the balance we´re looking for.

I´m not going to travel straight from Le Mans to Mugello. Normally we head there between the two races, but as there is no need to rush there before the Grand Prix I´ll be able to take a little break. I´ve got a week to recover and to be honest it couldn´t have come at a better time. From the beginning of the year we´ve been working flat out and I was beginning to feel the strain. So as there is a gap I´m going to take the opportunity to relax a little!
