Suzuki stay on at Mugello for Michelin tests

Suzuki riders Kenny Roberts and Sete Gibernau remained at the Mugello circuit this morning as they continued tests with tyre manufacturers Michelin. The team switched to Michelin from Dunlop earlier this season but had been using 2001 materials. Both Roberts and Gibernau used a 2002 front tyre for the race on Sunday and are hoping to incorporate the 2002 rear in the near future.

`We have been testing the 2002 rear today but we have not got a fixed date for when we can use it in a Grand Prix,´ said Team Manager Garry Taylor. `We are waiting for Michelin to make their mind up about that, and in the meantime we have to try and adopt the bike so that it is suitable for the new tyres. We have enjoyed excellent conditions at Mugello today and it helped take our mind off what was a bitterly disappointing weekend.´

Taylor saw both of his riders forced out of the race, Gibernau with a clutch problem and Roberts sliding into the gravel after losing the front end. `At this early stage of the GSV-R´s development, they both have to ride extra hard to overcome teething problems. In these circumstances, we must expect days like that. Obviously the development clutch is not right yet, and that is one of the items on our list,´ concluded Taylor.
