Hermann Maier visits MotoGP paddock in Mugello

Two time Olympic skiing champion Hermann Maier swapped the slopes for the MotoGP paddock last Sunday as he attended the Gran Premio Cinzano D´Italia in Mugello. It was the Austrian star´s first visit to a MotoGP event, and the ´Herminator´ as he is known, was hugely impressed by the two wheel extravaganza served up.

Maier was invited to Italy as a guest of Lucio Cecchinello´s Safilo Oxido LCR outfit, and was on hand to enjoy all three category races. As well as his two Olympic titles, Maier has also won seven individual World Cup Titles at various disciplines, included the famous ´Super G´ title, as well as having been crowned overall World Champion on two occasions. He is a huge bike fan, and indeed was forced to miss the recent Saltlake City Winter Olympics after suffering a serious bike crash.

Maier commented, ´I´m very happy to be here, and it really looks great. I have been told that the MotoGP bikes go up to around 320 kmph which is very fast, in skiing we can only get up to about 160kmph! I like bikes a lot, and in summer skiiers have the chance to go and see other sports, and it´s great to see these bikes close up´.
