Biaggi out of pocket after bet backfires

Marlboro Yamaha rider, Max Biaggi, was made to eat humble pie at his team´s recent test session in Valencia after losing a bet with his mechanics' assistant, Luciano Bertagna.

The amusing incident came about after the second day of tests had drawn to a close on Thursday. At dinner that night, the pair were discussing running and Bertagna suggested to Biaggi that he was capable of running one kilometre in less than four minutes. The Roman rider was far from convinced about Bertagna´s chances, and went on to lay a bet of 500 euros that he would not be able to carry out the feat. Biaggi then proceded to measure out a one kilometre course on his scooter, down the start-finish straight and around corner one at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, for Bertagna to attempt the challenge.

However, the four-time World Champion watched in amazement as Bertagna defied the odds to break the 4 minute mark and claim his prize. ´He was brilliant, he deserved to win... I never thought he´d do it!´ grinned Biaggi, as he settled the bet while still in his racing leathers.
