Ralf Waldmann will step out of Grand Prix retirement this weekend and return to a scene of former glories when he contests the 250cc Gauloises Dutch TT. The German veteran, who is heavily involved with development projects for young riders in his home country, has not raced since the final Grand Prix of 2000 at Phillip Island. However, the racing spirit as not left the 38 year old, and he will make a special wildcard appearance at Assen riding an Aprilia.

Waldmann, who will be remembered by many fans for his astonishing fifteen lap charge from 21st place to victory at Donington two years ago, tasted victory at Assen on two occasions, in the 125 class in 1991 and on a 250 in 1996. He also finished second here in the quarter-litre class in ´95 and ´97. The Hagen-born rider clocked up a total of 20 wins in the 125 and 250 categories, in a career spanning fourteen years from his debut in the 80cc class at Hockenheim in 1986.
