Ivan Goi makes Grand Prix return at Donington

Ivan Goi makes a welcome return to the Grand Prix fold this weekend after an absence stretching back to the final round of the 2000 season at Phillip Island. The Italian, who made history in 1996 by becoming the youngest ever GP winner at just 16 years and 157 days (a record which was later beaten by Marco Melandri at 15 years and 324 days), is riding as a substitute for the injured Jaroslav Hules at the Cinzano British Grand Prix at Donington Park.

Goi made his debut at the start of the 1996 season in Malaysia and enjoyed an intense rivalry with fellow Italian youngster Valentino Rossi. Both riders were tipped for stardom but, whilst Rossi has gone on to win titles in all three classes of Grand Prix racing, Goi struggled to come to terms after switching from Honda to Aprilia and never returned to the top step of the podium again.
