Jacque and Nakano launch Sachsenring attack

Gauloises Tech 3 Yamaha pair Olivier Jacque and Shinya Nakano sprung into life at the Sachsenring circuit this afternoon, with the Frenchman becoming the first two stroke rider to take pole position in the MotoGP class this season and his Japanese team-mate lapping just 0.080 seconds behind him to take second place on the grid. World Championship leader continued his struggle at his least favourite circuit on the calendar and could only set the sixth fastest time with a last lap effort which lifted him from tenth.

It is one of the closest grids in Grand Prix history, with just over one second separating pole setter Jacque from Dutchman Jurgen vd Goorbergh back in eighteenth place. Provisional pole man Jeremy McWilliams was unable to improve his time from Saturday and was relegated to the second row in seventh place as Biaggi and Barros completed the top four.

Tohru Ukawa will line up ahead of his team-mate Rossi in fifth place on the grid, whilst Garry McCoy will complete the second row in eighth.
