Mick Doohan reflects on Sachsenring classic

Well it was the race we had all hoped for at the Sachsenring this afternoon, although I guess for many not the result! It was so unlucky for Alex Barros and Olivier Jacque and a shame for the spectacle that they went out at that stage of the race. There was no doubt that Rossi had good speed but it is so difficult to overtake at this track that there was no guarantees he would pass the two strokes. We will never know what could have happened but the only thing that counts now is that Rossi has extended his lead in the championship.

As we expected the two stroke riders put on a great show and I thought both Jacque and Barros were outstanding. I think the fact that the top four finishers were four strokes without them shows that the best guys on the best machines were ready to pounce once their heroic efforts came to an end.

As we go to the summer break there is bound to be a lot of speculation in the motorcycle press about teams for next season. I have read a lot of stories about me heading a team in the MotoGP class next season but that just shows how journalists don´t let the truth get in the way of a good story! I am happy with my role at Honda as it is and have no intentions of running my own team in 2003. See you in the Czech Republic!.
