Jakub Smrz facing race against time to be fit for home GP

Jakub Smrz faces a race against time as he continues his recovery from a leg injury sustained in a round of the 125cc European Championship at the Hungaroring circuit in June. The Czech rider is currently in Tenerife with his Team Manager Daniel Epp, where he is receiving treatment from a top ATP physiotherapist in an attempt to be ready for the Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske Republiky at Brno on the 25th August.

Despite his injury the youngster decided to ride at Assen but later underwent surgery and now has a brace fitted to his leg. Since then Smrz has been trying as hard as possible to recover flexibility in the knee joint. `The recovery is going well but the chances of me making Brno are getting slimmer´, he explained. `According to the doctors they cannot remove the brace until the Friday before the race, although I´ll have decided probably by Monday if I am going to enter or not. I will be optimistic about it until they tell me otherwise´.

The 19 year old, who rides for the Elit Grand Prix team, continued: `The situation has not depressed me but I am anxious. I don´t like to miss any race, especially at home. If in the end I am not fit for Brno then I will go along anyway to watch my younger brother Matej ride as a wildcard´.
