Dip in form cuts down Poggiali advantage

The most notable absentee from the podium at both Sachsenring and Brno was without doubt defending World Champion Manuel Poggiali, who has seen his championship lead reduced to just two points. The Gilera rider is being hunted down by Arnaud Vincent in second place and by Dani Pedrosa, who is now just eleven points off top spot in third place with a maximum haul of 150 available over the final six races.

Up until Sachsenring, Poggiali had clocked up three wins, two second places and two thirds, missing out on the podium on just one occasion after his last lap crash at Jerez. These results meant that he had a 16 point advantage over Pedrosa and 19 more than Vincent arriving in Germany. However, fourth place in that race and fifth at Brno represent just 24 points in two races for the San Marino man, whilst Pedrosa has picked up 29 and Vincent 41.
