Gauloises Yamaha Tech 3 to field YZR-M1 from Malaysia

Yamaha have today officially announced plans to increase its current four-stroke contingent by two machines for the final three rounds of the 2002 calendar. Gauloises Yamaha Tech 3 riders Shinya Nakano and Olivier Jacque will ride the YZR-M1 for the first time in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix on October 11. The 990cc machines will also line up in the distinctive blue fairing of the French team at Phillip Island and Valencia.

Nakano announced last weekend, at the Grande Premio Marlboro de Portugal, that he was hopeful this decision would be made shortly, and added that he thought both he and team-mate Jacque could use the new technology to challenge for victories. `It has been a tough season for us so far with the 500 but I am sure that with the four stroke I can be fighting with the front riders for the last three Grand Prix.´
