Rossi´s route to the title in 2002

Valentino Rossi has rampaged his way to the MotoGP title in 2002, powering his Honda RC211V to glory after an intense winter of testing and development and failing to make the top step of the podium on just two occasions.

One look at the statistics is enough to confirm Rossi´s dominance, with ten wins from twelve Grand Prix starts this season, one second place and a dnf in Brno when his rear tyre exploded. Rossi has clocked up 270 points from 300 available and was only beaten to the finish line by team-mate Tohru Ukawa at Welkom after a mistake late in the race. $$$ The Italian, who has so far taken 7 pole positions and set the fastest race lap on 8 occasions, has won three times in the wet (Suzuka, Estoril and Rio), to bury the belief that he is purely a dry weather racer and has shown unrelenting dominance despite the fact that on some occasions, such as Donington, Sachsenring, Estoril and Rio, riders have crashed out in front of him.
