Lucio Cecchinello on Casey Stoner and David Checa

In Rio, Casey Stoner gave another demonstration of his talent by finishing in sixth position for the third time this year. The young Aussie had a good debut season in the quarter litre class, as his understandable lack of consistency was compensated by strong performances. Since the start of the season, he finished five times in the top eight and now lies in eleventh position in the overall standings.

The manager of the Safilo Oxydo team, Lucio Cecchinello, admitted to be very satisfied by the 16-year old rider, who was an unknown quantity for many before the start of the season. Indeed, Stoner only raced twice as a wildcard in 125 events before entering his first full season aboard a 250. ´Casey is surprising´ says Cecchinello. ´I´m very happy with his results, and to have provided him the support he needed to demonstrate his potential. I´m very thankful to Albert Puig, who noticed him in the Spanish Championship´. $$$ Stoner may finish the season with the Rookie of the Year title, but the other rider of the LCR Safilo Oxydo team has a way more complicated season. Since the start of the season, David Checa has been struggling with his Aprilia after he spent two seasons in the class aboard a Honda.

´David didn´t manage to get the bike suited to his style´ explains Cecchinello, who has a deep understanding of the problems of his riders ´The team work hard in order to improve the handling of the bike and make him more comfortable with it, but the results haven´t come yet. He´s very professional, and he´s a nice guy, but he really suffers from this situation. Of course, we don´t like that one of our riders doesn´t perform as he should´. However, the Italian remains optimistic : ´Lately, there were improvements, and I think he´ll be happier at the end of the season. He deserves to see his work and dedication rewarded´.
