Petronas Sprinta Yamaha TVK Team Manager Janey Looi looks back on Rio

The outstanding display produced by Sebastián Porto on his way to victory in the Cinzano Rio Grand Prix last Saturday was the first time a Petronas Sprinta Yamaha TVK rider had graced the top step of the podium in a 250cc Grand Prix. It was also Porto´s first win and he now lies fourth in the championship with four rounds remaining, including the team´s home race at Sepang in a little over three weeks.

Rio was a special occasion for the whole team, but especially for Janey Looi, who took control in 1998 after the death of her husband and founder Mr. Tong Veng Kit. `Just before the race started, I could feel TVK´s presence with us and my tears were already flowing,´ revealed Looi on her return to the team base in Barcelona. `The team would like to dedicate this sensational victory to him for all his dedication and tireless effort. We would not have been here without his priceless contribution. ´

Looi and her team now boast a run of four consecutive podiums and hope to continue this form right until the end of the season, particularly at their home race. `Naturally, the team will feel a little added pressure at our home Grand Prix in Sepang but, with everybody there especially our team sponsors, Petronas Malaysia, the Malaysian people and our local fans, we will not want to disappoint them. We are going to give our very best. The team have made the breakthrough and it should now be easier for us. All the team members are very motivated and in high spirits with the string of good results, which we aim to maintain until the last race in Valencia.´
