Jorge Martínez `Aspar´ to be honoured at Valencia

Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo will honour former 80cc and 125cc World Champion Jorge Martínez `Aspar´ by naming one of their corners after him. The four-time title winner will receive the honour next month at the Gran Premio Marlboro de la Comunitat Valenciana. Martinez was one of the main men behind the proposal of the circuit and its construction. Since retiring as a rider he has also created Team Aspar, bringing new Spanish talent into Grand Prix.

The Cheste track will also honour Adrián Campos, naming another corner after the ex-Formula 1 driver who more recently has directed the Adrián Campos Motorsport team which has seen Marc Gené and Fernando Alonso take Fórmula Nissan titles. This ceremony will take place during car tests in 2003.

The Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo had previously honoured two other riders, naming one corner after five times 500cc World Champion Michael Doohan and one after Spain´s most decorated rider, Ángel Nieto. `The Generalitat Valenciana [local council] chose to honour Jorge Martínez Aspar and Adrián Campos as a way of thanking two men who have put in a lot of effort to make our circuit what it is today,´ explained Circuit General Director, José María Oltra.
