MotoGP to join in exhaust pipe opera in Australia

When the MotoGP globetrotting convoy reaches Australia later this month, the riders and their machines will have the chance to contribute to an opera with a difference. For when top Australian tenor Simon O´Loughlin performs the national anthem before the race at Phillip Island, he´ll have a full grid of race bikes revving their accompaniment in the background. The moment is being eagerly awaited by lovers of the stage and the track, and down under it has already been dubbed as the `exhaust pipe orchestra´ and `the four-stroke symphony´.

O´Loughlin, who has sung extensively for the Victorian State Opera, the State Opera of South Australia and the Western Australian Opera Company, plus a solo performance in London at the Royal Albert Hall, is relishing the opportunity. `I am sure I will feel like a very privileged and proud Australian when I stand up to sing at the Grand Prix,´ he said. `It will be very different for me to see all those magnificent machines and riders in front of me.´
