Norick Abe to race a Yamaha M1 in Australia

Norick Abe, from the Antena 3 Yamaha d´Antin team, will ride the 4-stroke M1 Yamaha from the penultimate round of the MotoGP World Championship, the Skyy Vodka Grand Prix of Australia, which will be held in Phillip Island later this month. Abe will join the four others M1 riders. In addition to Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa, the Gauloises Yamaha Tech3 riders, Olivier Jacque and Shinya Nakano will ride the M1 from the next Grand Prix, in Sepang. ´Yamaha confirmed to us that we´ll get a M1 in Phillip Island, and I hope I´ll be able to fight at the front´ declared Abe, who took eighth in Motegi aboard a YZR500.

Team manager Luis d´Antin explained : ´Finally, Norick will get a 4-stroke bike. I think he really deserves it, he gave his best to get it. The race in Motegi has demonstrated once more the huge gap with the 4-strokes. It´s a well-deserved reward for the work he did this year´. $$$ The former GP rider has also announced that Pere Riba will not take part in the three remaining races. Another crash in free practice put an end to the weekend of the Catalan rider. ´It´s sad, because Pere Riba had been very unlucky. We decided it was the end of his season, because he will need time to recover from his leg injury and get fit again for new projects. I think he made the right choice and I wish him the best for the future. From now, Jose Luis Cardoso will ride the second bike´.
