Randy Mamola reflects on the Gauloises Pacific Grand Prix of Motegi

It was a very exciting race, as Barros did a great job beating Valentino Rossi to the chequered flag. It was an epic battle, and the exciting part of that was the fact that Barros was only on the 4-stroke Honda for four practice sessions leading up to today's race. The West Honda Pons team did a fantastic job, as Capirossi was also on the podium.

The hard felt problems were for Daijiro Kato, who had an engine problem, while Biaggi had a front tyre problem before being black-flagged. It's only the third time this year that Rossi has been dethroned from the top step of the podium, and the remaining three races will be very exciting.
