Tech 3 pair test Yamaha M1 at Shah Alam

Gauloises Yamaha Tech 3 riders Olivier Jacque and Shinya Nakano spent today testing their new M1 machines prior to their debuts aboard the four-stroke at this weekend´s race in Sepang. The riders had a very easy day on their new racers because the Shah Alam Batu Tiga raceway is rarely used, and so track conditions are not at optimum levels. Both riders will be aware that they only have one machine apiece to ride on at this weekend´s Gauloises Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, so any serious crash would mean reverting to their two-stroke charges.

´This is the first time I have ever ridden a racing 4-stroke and the most surprising thing for me was how easy it was!´ said Jacque. ´The way the power just keeps coming is certainly impressive, and it slides a bit more than the 2-stroke, but apart from that there were no big surprises. It has been invaluable to be able get to know the bike a little before making our public debut on Friday morning´. $$$ His team-mate, Shinya Nakano, was also enthusiastic about his new machinery : ´Although I rode the bike last year and very briefly this summer this is the first time I have ridden my own bike with my team present and I'm very happy with how everything went. Obviously we have a lot of work still to do but I had a good feeling today and am looking forward to seeing how we get on against the other 4-strokes at Sepang in a couple of days´.
