First ever one-two for Team ´Aspar´

The Sepang circuit provided the venue for a first ever one-two in the 250 class for the team led by Jorge Martínez ´Aspar´. Fonsi Nieto and Toni Elías dominated the race to take first and second place and propel Nieto back into the title chase with Marco Melandri retiring because of an electrical fault.

It was Fonsi´s eighth visit to the podium and for the fourth time he was on the top step. Elías, who took his maiden victory seven days previously at Motegi, followed team orders and took second place to make it five podiums for the season. Despite these impressive statistics it was actually only the second time they had been on the podium together, with the other being at Donington in July when Nieto finished second behind Melandri with Elias third.

´The one-two makes me very proud and it is a clear demonstration that we are doing our job well,´ said Aspar after the race. `It was a real team victory, achieved by each and every one of its members and it came at the perfect time because Fonsi has the chance to challenge for the title again. To have two riders like these in your team is a situation that anybody would like to have´.
