Mathematical possibilities of Vincent becoming World Champion this weekend

Arnaud Vincent gets the first of two chances to lift the 125cc World Championship crown at Phillip Island this weekend. Vincent has a 20 point advantage over defending World Champion Manuel Poggiali and is 33 clear of Dani Pedrosa with just 50 remaining to play for.

The Frenchman must finish ahead of Poggiali to celebrate the title in Australia. Should he win, he can disregard the San Marino rider altogether. If Vincent is second, Poggiali can finish no lower than fourth. Third place for the Aprilia man would mean his Gilera rival can finish as low as eighth. From fifth onwards the World Champion can finish tenth or lower but cannot stray from within five places of the series leader.

Pedrosa´s title chances will be over if Vincent finishes in the top two. If the Frenchman finishes third then the Spaniard must win to keep his hopes alive. If Pedrosa is second, Vincent can finish fourth and if the Honda rider is on the third step of the podium then the Aprilia rider can be as far back as eighth. From fifth place onwards Vincent can concede eight positions to Pedrosa.
