Poggiali takes pole as Vincent recovers

Manuel Poggiali took pole position for the 125 race tomorrow with a determined ride in mixed conditions at Phillip Island this afternoon. His resolve was matched by Arnaud Vincent, who recovered from a nightmare first qualifying on Friday, which saw him take a provisional grid position of 21st, to qualify second as the track dried from a brief shower early in the session. The Frenchman dropped his time from yesterday by two and a half seconds, sending a clear message to Poggiali as the pair go head to head with the world title at stake tomorrow.

Vincent began his comeback at the start of the session, with many riders struggling to improve their times as the rain began to fall. The strong wind soon cleared the clouds, however, and as the sun broke through the only rider not to improve was provisional pole setter Steve Jenkner, who dropped back to fourth place as Alex De Angelis broke on to the front row in third.

Lucio Cecchinello heads the second row and is joined by Pablo Nieto, Simone Sanna and Stefano Bianco. Daniel Pedrosa qualified tenth.
