Randy Mamola looks back on the Skyy Vodka Australian Grand Prix

Round 15 in Phillip Island was a fantastic race, with once again the 4-strokes prevailing. Although we had a full 2-strokes front row, the 4-strokes went through and shone again. Valentino Rossi and Alex Barros did a great job, just taking off, and Barros was setting a faster pace lap after lap. Rossi managed to take the lead, getting by Barros with a few laps to go. Barros made a mistake when he tried to get through, ironically in the Honda corner, but he did hang on the second place.

There was a fantastic battle for third. In the end, Ukawa took another podium finish ahead of Kato and Vd Goorbergh. If I had a hat, I would have to take it off to Jurgen, for being the best 2-stroke on this fast circuit. Jeremy McWilliams, the polesitter, had a difficult race. He ran off the track at one point but did end up in 10th. His team-mate Nobu Aoki did a great race and took 7th behind Biaggi.
