Roberto Locatelli looking towards 125 return with KTM in 2003

As 2002 comes to an end, Roberto Locatelli is already looking to put a nightmare season behind him and is considering his future in the 125 class. The Aprilia rider made an excellent start to the season but his form has dropped since summer after the withdrawal of his main sponsors. The Italian has only recorded 10 points from the last four races and he is now hoping to end the season on a high.

`I am not looking to make excuses but obviously the sponsor stuff has not helped,´ explains the 28 year old. `Valencia is a track which I like and I have had good results there in the past. In 2000, when I was in the 125cc class, I took pole position and I won the race. The fans play a huge role there because the all love motorcycles so much. I would like to have a nice sunset on a grey season and finish with a podium like I did at Brazil last year.´

Locatelli currently lies in seventh place in the 250cc World Championship but is just two points ahead of De Puniet and only four clear of Alzamora. `I want to defend my position and make sure I don´t drop any further in the classification. Sixth place is a long way off so I will be trying to hold off de Puniet and Alzamora´.

Locatelli admits that his World Championship future is in doubt, although he does fancy a change of scenery. `It is not official yet but I will probably be back in 125 next year with KTM. It will be all aorted out after Valencia but I am sure in my own mind. After such a disappointing season it is obvious that I want to decide on my plans for next year´.
