Quotes from the first three riders on the provisional grid

Alex Barros (1st): `Obviously the most important thing today is that I am on provisional pole. I had a totally unexpected fall on a flying lap and the only reason I can think of for it is that there was something on the track. I went a little deeper into the corner than usual and I went down. It was as if something blocked the wheel when I braked and it began to slide. Hopefully, there wasn´t any consequence. We had a few set-up problems, we´ll have to improve tomorrow´.

Max Biaggi (2nd): `I am certainly not going to slow down just because this is my last race with Yamaha! For race conditions we are already pretty good. We´ve certainly not got any of the problems we had in Australia, so we´re just doing routine set-up work and if we can improve tomorrow we´ll be right up there. The new rear I used for my final run today upset the balance of the bike, but the race is 30 laps so one quick lap does not mean much´.

Daijiro Kato (3rd): `For the first few laps I felt I was in perfect harmony with the machine. The test here in August helped me a lot during the session and I can improve even more tomorrow. At the end a slow rider held me up and cost me a lot of time´.
