Schwantz tests the GSV-R alongside Hopkins in Malaysia

John Hopkins was in good company when he made his Suzuki GSV-R debut at Sepang last week, as he was joined at the Malaysian circuit by two former 500cc World Champions – his new team-mate Kenny Roberts Jr. and Kevin Schwantz, who won the title with Team Suzuki in 1993. Hopkins rode with a Suzuki in the AMA Supersport and Formula Xtreme Championships after being spotted by US talent scout John Ulrich, who originally discovered Schwantz for Suzuki.

`Suzuki has a history of looking for young riders like John - we picked up both Barry Sheene and Kevin Schwantz at early stages of their careers, and both went on to win many races and three World Championships with the factory Suzuki team,´ commented Team Manager Garry Taylor. `John gives off much the same sort of energy as the young Kevin - obviously very talented, but also very determined to reach the top´.
