Ducati join Aprilia in Jerez

Ducati Desmosedici riders Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss are lapping alongside Aprilia men Colin Edwards and Noriyuki Haga in a three day test at Jerez this week. The circuit, which is scheduled to host round three of the 2003 MotoGP World Championship, saw the Italian factories take to the asphalt on Monday – with Ducati completing their first ever day of tests at the Spanish venue. Conditions were ideal on day one, but today, the riders had to be cautious on a wet track.

After Valencia testing two weeks ago, Jerez provides a second opportunity for Capirossi to test his new bike on a track he knows and loves well, whereas it was the first time that Australian Bayliss had ever seen the track. The Ducati Corse squad continued its scheduled workload, testing several components aimed at developing chassis set-up. Capirossi and Bayliss lapped with the `four-pulse´ configuration of the Desmosedici power-unit on Monday and were scheduled to test the `twin-pulse´ version of the V4 engine on Tuesday.

The Jerez test provided World Superbike Champion Colin Edwards with his first taste of MotoGP action aboard the Aprilia RS Cube. The American crashed without injury on Monday and was declared fit to ride on Tuesday.
