Mirko Giansanti looks back on the 2003 season

Italian rider Mirko Giansanti is one of many riders currently looking to secure a team for the 2003 World Championship. Giansanti spent 2002 with the Ce Ba Corse outfit and finished the season in fifteenth place, with one podium to his name thanks to second place in the opening round of the season at Suzuka.

´To be honest I can´t really look back on the 2002 season in a positive light,´ says the Italian. `I began really well with second place at Suzuka, but the conditions were pretty special because the race was run under torrential rain and it was never going to be a sign of things to come´. In fact it developed into Giansanti´s worst season in the 125 class since his rookie year in 1996 when he finished 30th after contesting just four races. His best result so far was sixth place in 1999.$$$ ´We had several problems throughout the course of the season,´ he continues. `It seems as though Honda only wanted to help one rider and the other official riders had to keep going almost without any help from the factory´.

With the season now closed, Giansanti is hoping for better luck in 2003. ´At the moment negotiations are open and I can´t say anything. I hope to know more details about my future in the next few days´.
