Carlo Campetella pleasantly surprised with the season

The owner of the Campetella Racing team, Carlo Campetella, looks back on a season of consolidation in the 250cc World Championship, which saw riders Randy de Puniet and Alex Debón take ninth and eleventh place in the overall standings.

´Our team is still very young and lacks the experience of some other teams bu the results have been way above our initial expectations. De Puniet finished ninth in the and Debón was just two places behind him in eleventh.

´In reality, if we look how things have gone, we can conclude that we still have a lot of room for improvement, particularly in terms of consistency. This is what happens with teams on kit bikes. They don´t have the necessary updates to find an ideal set-up at every circuit. One of the main problems we have had from this point of view was with the tyres, which have only been in ideal conditions on a sporadic basis´.

´Looking back, you could think that maybe we could have done more to achieve better results, but we can´t feel too sorry for ourselves because on many occasions we have been fighting with official riders. Randy finished on the podium twice – in Suzuka and Le Mans . In Rio he set pole position and on other occasions he was on the brink of great results. We should not forget that he is only 21 years old, he is a young rider and he must still mature before reaching a level which will allow him to fight for good results at every race´.

With respect to next season, Campetella also explained that various negotiations are underway to try and reconfirm De Puniet, although the identity of the second rider will not b known until next week.
