Mika Kallio named Rookie of the Year

Finnish rider Mika Kallio took the Rookie of the Year award in the 125cc class, as he took the eleventh position of the Championship with 78 points. Three times 125cc Finland Champion, the 20 years old managed to beat spaniard Hector Barbera, to succeed to Daniel Pedrosa, who took eight overall in his debut season last year.

After two wildcard appearances last year, Mika Kallio proved his worth all year long, as he scored points in eleven out of sixteen races. He clinched his best result in the third round of the season, in Jerez, taking the flag in fifth. The Red Devil Honda rider also shone in qualifying. In Assen, he qualified on the front row with his fourth time, and in Estoril, he lead the second row of the starting grid.
